She is the wife of Sanjay Passi, chairman of Pasco Group, a leading Tata Motors-certified dealership in North India. Shalini and Sanjay married in 2001.

Philanthropist Passi had a passion for art since her school days. She completed her schooling at Modern School, Barakhamba Road, Delhi. She dreamed of becoming an architect, but because of her involvement in mathematics, she chose the arts because she was not perfect at it. 

After joining the Arts, she enjoyed and started learning dance, painting, and theatre classes. Shalin has become confident and has stated her passion for art.
